The costs of a DUI are vast and many

Have you ever stopped and considered how much a drunk driving offense costs the offender? It doesn't just stop with the legal consequences associated with the crime. Instead, the costs permeate throughout a person's life and can affect a wide range of issues that you wouldn't even consider if you haven't had to deal with post-DUI circumstances.

To begin, let's consider the court costs and legal costs of a DUI. Between bail, towing, impounding your vehicle, going to court, jail time and sentencing (if involved), chemical testing and probation, you could be looking at thousands of dollars in costs.

Then you have to live your life in the wake of the conviction. This becomes much more difficult after a DUI. You don't have your license, and it will cost you money when you want to reinstate it. So you have to rent cars, take buses, use Uber and ride taxis. None of this is free. In addition, you may have to use ignition interlock devices or pay for alcohol treatment and therapy.

And then there are the long terms effects of a DUI charge. Your insurance rates will go way up. You may not be able to participate in certain activities anymore given your criminal past. You may struggle to find a new job or even maintain your current job, as well as find it difficult to get an apartment or line of credit.

There are so many potential problems in the wake of a DUI charge that it is imperative to get an attorney as soon as you are accused of the offense to minimize the damage and fight for your rights.
