The perils of dog bites, and why victims needs legal help

Let's say that you are walking down the street one day after you just completed a trip to the grocery store. You're carrying some bags home as you walk the same path you always have over the years. As you approach a house that you know has a dog in it, you start to wonder what type of dog is in there. You've never seen the dog in all of years in the neighborhood.

Then, right at that moment, the dog turns a corner and looks at you. You look at it. It starts to growl. And within moments, the dog charges and is on top of you, biting your arms and legs and tearing into your torso.

It's a scary situation, right? No one would want to go through that, and yet unfortunately many people do every year. What happens when a dog attack occurs? What should the victim do in the aftermath?

It is essential to get the medical care that you need. You may have serious cuts, deep lacerations, broken bones and much worse after a dog bite. You may also have to deal with rabies treatment, depending on how the dog was cared for prior to the attack. A lot will go into your medical care and recovery, and it will be a central part to your legal case if you file a lawsuit against the dog owner (among other possible responsible parties).

Once you are cared for, then you have to consult with an attorney to hold those in charge of the dog responsible for what happened. Sayer Regan & Thayer has the experience and knowledge of personal injury law to help victims (and their loved ones) of dog bites, so please consider us if you are in need of help after an animal attack.
