Driver cited for marijuana possession after bicycle accident

Currently, recreational marijuana use is being considered, but it is not yet legal. Even if it were, this would not mean that one could be under the influence of marijuana while driving because this is a drug that can still impair one's judgment behind the wheel and result in an unnecessary accident. According to reports, a 19-year-old was hit by a vehicle while he was riding his bicycle in the northbound lane of a road a little after midnight. He is currently in the hospital. The bicycle accident took place around Portsmouth Town Hall in Rhode Island.

Small girl must undergo surgery after vicious dog attack

Despite what some believe, Rhode Island dog owners are responsible for the actions of their dogs. Because of this, owners must pay close attention to their dogs to ensure that their dogs do not cause harm to another individual; the owners must also do what they can to prevent any potentially dangerous situations. Some of the most disturbing dog attack situations are when children are involved, especially when those children suffer injuries that could affect them for the rest of their lives.

When it comes to traffic fatalities, even one death is one too many

As 2015 draws to a close, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released traffic accident statistics for the first six months of the year and, unfortunately, the numbers aren't positive. According to NHTSA, from January to June of this year, there were a total of 16,225 traffic fatalities which represents a jump of eight percent over the first six months of 2014.

Are you concerned about an aging loved one's ability to drive?

Next week, residents throughout Rhode Island and beyond will gather with family and friends to celebrate the holidays. While eating, drinking and being merry are likely to dominate these holiday celebrations; it's also an opportune time to check in with and assess the health and safety of older loved ones.

Just how safe are autonomous cars?

For several years now, the promise of fully-autonomous self-driving cars has been heralded as the solution to the nation's high number of motor vehicle accident-related injuries and fatalities. For some people, the thought of punching in an address and sitting idly inside a car that maneuvers on its own may seem idyllic. For others, the thought of not having control over a vehicle that is barreling down the highway is a terrifying thought. Regardless of one's opinion about self-driving cars, safety is always a concern.

Whiplash injuries: common and painful

Most Rhode Island residents have likely seen a television show or movie in which a character who is involved in a car accident is wearing a large white cervical collar around his or her neck. While commonly associated with comedic depictions of car accident injuries, there's nothing funny about a neck injury and one of the most common types of neck injuries that result from motor vehicle accidents is whiplash.

Why is it more dangerous to drive in Montana than in Rhode Island?

Today's motor vehicles are better designed and equipped with more safety features than ever. Yet, despite these major safety improvements, each year millions of people across the U.S. continue to be negatively impacted by motor vehicle accidents.
