Rhode Island man charged with breath test refusal and DUI

A man in Rhode Island is facing multiple charges following a car crash that occurred near the middle of May. This individual is accused of DUI, breath test refusal and driving recklessly. As each of these offenses are considered serious, a strategic criminal defense may be of benefit to his situation.

A gentleman in his late 30s was involved in a single-vehicle crash that resulted injuries to himself and a passenger. Both individuals required medical care and were transported to a hospital for treatment. The injuries suffered were not specified; however, they are not believed to be life-threatening.

According to police, the driver of the car, for reasons unknown, left the road and crashed his vehicle. The 37-year-old male allegedly refused chemical testing. He has been charged with driving under the influence, a moving violation and reckless driving -- along with the breath test refusal. A court date has apparently been scheduled, though, that date has not been reported.

The charges filed in this case are far from minor. Those accused of DUI, breath test refusal and other similar charges face numerous potential penalties if convictions are secured by prosecuting attorneys. Even a first time offense will result in a license suspension and a fine and could warrant a jail term of up to one year. Subsequent offenses only increase the severity of these penalties. While fighting such accusations in a Rhode Island criminal court will not be easy, defense strategies are available that can assist the accused in seeking the best possible outcome for his specific circumstances.
