Firefighters save 1 in fatal boating accident

Usually when you hear about a boating accident, you don't expect there to be any good news in the story. Even in the following story, this is only partially true -- but the heroism displayed by some firefighters to save the life of a man whose boat capsized is something to savor in regards to boating accidents.

The boat capsized off of Staten Island in New York, where two men -- and 84-year-old and an 82-year-old -- were fishing. Unfortunately, the 84-year-old man died in the boating accident. But the 82-year-old man was saved by firefighters after a nearby boat saw the capsize happen and called in a "mayday."

It's not often that you hear about a boat capsizing and the resulting story is at least partially uplifting. In that sense, we should revel in this story. But of course someone lost their life here, and that, more often than not, is the outcome when a serious boating accident occurs.

When a boating accident occurs, an investigation into the incident will be launched. This investigation will take some time and it is important for the parties affected by the boating accident -- the actual boaters and any of their loved ones -- to be patient. When a report on the investigation is released, it will contain critical information that could support any lawsuit that the parties involved are considering.

Remember that Admiralty and Maritime Law is a complex and unique area of law. You need to consult with a personal injury attorney that has experience dealing with Admiralty and Maritime situations to ensure your case is handled properly.
