The ocean is and always has been a central part of my life.  I have been unable to escape it, though I have not really tried all that hard. I am always drawn back to the sea. I have studied, sailed, fished, explored, played and worked on the ocean throughout my life. I have come to respect and cherish the ocean, its inhabitants and our interactions and dependency upon the world’s oceans.

Eighty percent of the world’s population lives in close proximity to the shore, and that population places significant burdens upon the dynamic systems at the interface between land and sea. I understand the conflict that exists between natural systems and our desire to live, play and work close to the ocean. I was born overseas and traveled extensively with my family as a child and then while working as a professional mariner until discovering Newport. My wife, two boys and I have made Newport our home since 2000.

Newport, and Rhode Island in general, are special. Rhode Island leads the way in facing the challenges of living at or near the shore.  Our extensive coastline, fantastic harbors, and prestigious maritime history in both commercial and recreational seagoing endeavors furthers our connection and interdependence on the ocean. Accordingly, we have extensive regulations managing almost all of our interactions between the land and the sea.

As a Professional Mariner licensed by the U.S.C.G. and the Royal Yachting Association / Maritime and Coastguard Authority (RYA/MCA) I remain actively involved in many aspects of the Maritime industry.  I maintain and sail on both my U.S.C.G. 500 Ton Master and R.Y.A. 200 Ton Yacht master licenses, both with Oceans Endorsements.

My passion and understanding of the ocean combined with my knowledge of maritime and coastal law and regulations allow me to provide sound advice and counsel for my clients and to advocate vigorously on their behalf when necessary.

Immigration, Maritime Lawyer Christopher J. McNally Connects with his Clients in a Real-World Manner
by Brian Cox

Rhode Island attorney Christopher McNally’s life has uniquely prepared him for the two primary fields of law that his practice centers around – he almost seems to have been destined for the work…

I had known Chris [McNally] for about a year and could tell by his charity work that he was a good person who cared about the community.  It wasn’t until I needed him that I realized what an extraordinary job he does. Right from the start I knew I need someone on my side that I could trust.  I called Chris and he responded immediately.  His warmth and understanding helped me feel that someone understood what I was going through.  He and his staff jumped right in, they took care of everything!  They had answers to questions I didn’t even know to ask. You could look for better representation, but you are not going to find it.  Chris is the BEST!  If I could give him a one hundred star review I would.  You can’t go wrong with his experience, knowledge and honesty.  He is a great guy who did a great job. Thanks for everything Chris.

After my second B-Visa denial and the prospect of not being able to continue as skipper of a boat on its passage to American waters, I realised I needed professional help. Chris McNally was recommended to me as an immigration attorney and someone who could help with my crucial third and possibly final attempted to obtain my B-visa. Chris was methodical in his approach and took the time to understand both my current situation and the reasons for my previous visa denials. Not only was his preparation of the DS-160 meticulous, he prepared a comprehensive set of documents in support of my application. Prior to my third interview Chris coached me through possible interview questions and I am delighted to say my third visit to the US Consulate was successful. I highly recommended Chris McNally.

We worked with Chris McNally on a complex insurance settlement, and we couldn’t have asked for a better advocate. Chris demonstrated exceptional professionalism and determination throughout the entire process. He was persistent and firm when it mattered most, yet always measured and strategic in his approach.

This case involved significant delays and challenges, but Chris navigated it with skill and a calm, steady hand. His ability to balance persistence with diplomacy made all the difference, ultimately bringing the matter to the best resolution possible.

We are deeply grateful for his expertise and would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a strong, capable attorney who truly cares about his clients.
