Alcohol Impairment Chart
The following Alcohol Impairment Chart, adopted in the California Driver’s Handbook, provides an approximation of an anticipated Blood Alcohol Concentration based upon the amount of alcohol consumed. This chart is not and does not claim to be 100% accurate because people absorb and eliminate alcohol at varying rates. Furthermore, “One drink” is a one and a half ounce shot of eighty proof liquor (even if mixed with non-alcoholic drinks), a five ounce glass of 12% wine, or a twelve ounce glass of 5% beer. These “one drink” equivalents change if you are drinking ale, malt liquors, fortified wines, port, brandy, different proof liquor, or if you are drinking on an empty stomach.
