What are some things you might not know about alcohol?

There are many things that people may not know about alcohol. For example, it doesn't actually impact the life cycle of brain cells, which means drinking too much won't actually kill your brain cells and make you dumb. In fact, some alcohol can actually be good for you. Red wine, for example, can prevent the onset of dementia, according to research.

Despite all the good alcohol can potentially do, drinking too much and getting behind the wheel of a car is still a dangerous proposition. Alcohol is intoxicating, and it may make you slower, lethargic, aggressive or even so carefree that you take your safety for granted.

Alcohol is a depressant. It makes you feel good because it gives you a moment of euphoria and relaxation as it enters the body, but it can quickly impact moods and depress those who drink too much. Some people become angry or aggressive as a result of drinking.

While you can monitor how much you drink by counting how much you've had, the amount of alcohol in a single serving size varies. For instance, 5 ounces of wine and 12 ounces of beer both have the same amount of alcohol, even though they're vastly different in size. The only way to be sure of how intoxicated you are is to carry your own personal breathalyzer and to wait at least 15 minutes after your last drink to use it.

If you do get behind the wheel and drive drunk, you put your life and the lives of others at risk. If you're arrested, your attorney can help you fight the charges. A conviction can change your life, so it's wise to make sure you're treated fairly.
