With Memorial Day Weekend upon us, here's a simple reminder

In just over 24 hours, the Memorial Day Weekend will be upon us. There will be many people out there who want to soak in the sun during this holiday that marks the "opening of the Summer," and as such, there will be plenty of people who take their boat out on the ocean or to the lake to enjoy the weather and have a good time with friends and family.

Everyone certainly means well, but it is very common for a boating trip (and especially on a holiday weekend like the one upon us) to include some casual consumption of alcohol. In the moment, it just seems fun and relaxing. But when it comes to the operator of the vessel, this casual, fun experience can lead to a dreadful fate.

A boating under the influence charge carries severe penalties, just like any accusation of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It won't just hurt you in the near term -- the consequences will affect you for a very long time. With such stakes, it is imperative that anyone who has been accused of boating under the influence to consult an experienced criminal defense attorney.
