Boater arrested on suspicion of operating boat while intoxicated

While the following story is not local, it still presents the chance to discuss boating under the influence and the many ramifications this charge can have on the people who are accused of committing the offense.

A boat was out on the water with nine people in it, and all of the passengers were between the ages of 18 and 24. The boat eventually crashed into a wood piling, which threw the passengers all over the boat -- though thankfully, none were tossed into the water. One woman was injured and needed to go to the hospital after the crash, though her injuries were described as not life threatening.

The person who was operating the boat was allegedly intoxicated, as the police noted that alcohol was a factor in the crash. Other than these details, not much is known about the wreck.

As we have mentioned before on this blog: even though BUIs do not seem like a common offense, they do happen all the time and the people who are accused of these offenses need to protect their rights and get legal help. A BUI can have a crippling effect on someone's life if they don't take the charge seriously.

There are so many penalties and consequences associated with boating under the influence (or operating motor vehicles in general when you are intoxicated). You have to get your defense in order as soon as possible after you are accused of a crime, lest you risk the case spiraling out of control.
